Frequently asked questions
Questions parents often ask.
What makes River Heights Montessori different?
River Heights Montessori offers a unique Reggio-inspired Montessori approach, combining the independence and hands-on learning principles of Montessori with the creativity, collaboration, and child-led exploration associated with the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
Our warm, thoughtfully prepared environment encourages children to develop independence, confidence, creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning while recognizing that every child develops at their own pace.
Are you open year-round, and how do your daily fees work?
Yes! River Heights Montessori is open 12 months of the year, providing families with consistent and dependable child care throughout the year.
We keep our fee structure simple with one consistent fee for up to 10 hours of care per day, giving families the flexibility and peace of mind they need without having to choose between different hourly care options.
What ages do you accept?
We welcome children from 6 months to 6 years of age, providing a nurturing and engaging environment designed to support their development throughout these important early years.
Availability varies by age group, so we encourage families to contact us regarding current and upcoming openings.
What are your child-to-educator ratios?
At River Heights Montessori, children's safety, supervision, and individual attention are a top priority.
As a licensed child care centre, we follow the child-to-staff ratios established by Manitoba's Early Learning and Child Care regulations based on the age of the children in each program.
Maintaining these ratios helps ensure children receive appropriate supervision, meaningful interactions, and the individual support they need throughout their day. Our team carefully monitors classroom ratios and staffing to maintain licensing requirements at all times.
Do you offer full-time and part-time care?
Yes. We offer both full-time and part-time enrolment options, subject to availability. Our team can help you determine which option best fits your family's needs.
Are you part of Manitoba's $10-a-day child care program?
No. River Heights Montessori is a private child care centre, and families pay their monthly child care fees directly.
However, eligible child care expenses may be claimed as a deduction when filing your annual income tax return. Depending on eligibility, families may be able to claim up to $8,000 per year for a child under 7, or up to $11,000 for a child who qualifies for the Disability Tax Credit.
We provide families with annual child care tax receipts for eligible fees paid. The actual deduction and resulting tax savings will depend on each family's individual circumstances and eligibility.
Do you provide meals and snacks?
Families provide their child's meals and snacks, allowing parents to choose foods based on their child's preferences, dietary needs, and family routines.
What does a typical day look like?
Each day includes a thoughtful balance of Montessori learning, child-led exploration, independent activities, creative experiences, outdoor play, group activities, meals, and rest time.
Our Reggio-inspired Montessori approach provides children with consistency and structure while giving them opportunities to explore their interests, express their creativity, and learn at their own pace.
How will I receive updates about my child?
We use Brightwheel to help families stay connected with their child's experience at RHM. Parents can receive updates and photos, stay informed about important centre information, and communicate directly with our team.
Can I tour the centre before enrolling?
Absolutely! We encourage families to visit our centre, explore our classrooms, meet our educators, and learn more about our Reggio-inspired Montessori approach before making an enrolment decision.
Simply submit a Book a Tour request through our website, and our team will be happy to connect with you.
